Other Domains of Cooperation

Canada actively supported Romania in the euro-atlantic integration process of the latter. Canada was also the first country to ratify the Protocols of integration of candidate-states accepted at the NATO Prague Summit (March 28, 2003), and supported Romania in its European Union integration process.

In preparing the Sommes de la Francophonie that took place in Bucharest (September 28-29, 2006) and in Quebec City (October 17-19, 2008, Romania collaborated with Canada both at the federal and provincial levels, through numerous coordinating exchanges regarding the organizations process of the two Summits.

At the Sommes de la Francophonie that took place in Quebec City in 2008, Romania passed on the Presidency of the Summits to Canada. Outside of the Francophonie, Romania and Canada cooperate extensively in international organizations, specifically the United Nations, including through regular arrangements for reciprocal support in cases of candidacies. Romania also coordinates with members states (among them Canada also) in the southern component of the International Security Assistance Force led by NATO in Afghanistan.
