Message of condolences on passing away of Prof. Nicolas Mateesco-Matte

The Embassy of Romania has learned with deep sadness the news of the passing away of Prof. Nicolas Mateesco-Matte, at the venerable age of 102. University Proffessor Mateescu-Matte was a Member of Honour of the Romanian Academy, holder of the Edward Warner prize, a worldwide renowned personality of the legal studies, with essential contributions to aerospace law.

Born in Craiova, Prof. Mateescu-Matte had a prestigious academic career, during which he obtained the title of Doctor from the University of Bucharest and the University of Paris, taught at the University of Montreal and managed the Institute of Air and Space at the University McGill.

His contributions to the development of the legal field, as well as his involvement in social work were recognized through important distinctions and decorations, among which, the Prize of the Institute of Space Law, Prize Edward Warner, offered by the ICAO, the Order of Canada, Legion of Honour in order of Knight (France), the Order of Merit in grade of Grand Office (Romania).

A remarkable personality, Prof. Mateescu-Matte has strengthened the reputation of law schools in both Romania and Canada. The values which he constantly stayed truthful to throughout his career, and his truly remarkable contributions as an architect of change and vector for the development of international law will outlast him.
